What've I got to say?

:: Friday, May 30, 2003

Youji is trying to music virus me back into writing Weiss (can't stop singing "Otherside," argh), but at the moment Seishirou seems to have taken command of the brain cell. Go, Seishirou! I've actually made slow but steady progress on "Sakura" for two days in a row, which, considering how hard I've been running from this chapter, is more miraculous than it sounds. It's funny how anxiety-ridden I can get with this--there are times, like today, when I literally have to say to myself, "Okay, all you have to do is sit there and write *one word.* One word! And then you'll have achieved something." Because if I try to think about writing more than that one word, I get paralyzed. But if I can sit down in front of the computer long enough to get that first word down on the screen, then I somehow can keep going with the sentences and the paragraphs.

Ironically, I thought this section was going to be *easy.* I mean, it's between smut bits, it's just cute dialogue and a tiny bit of Subaru backstory and maybe some flirting. No problem, right? Unfortunately, it turns out that Seishirou is having one of his almost-but-not-quite-getting-it moments, and I think his subconscious resistance is affecting me. But we've just gotten to the smooching part, so I think the worst struggle is over. *crosses fingers*

In other news, I dropped a huge post on the CFFML dealing with the current turmoil about feedback giving and who we all write for. For sheer verbal tonnage, I think I win. I don't think I killed anyone, though. ^_^ At least I managed by the skin of my teeth not to rant--I had the ranty bit all written, and then sanity intervened and I cut that part. Whew.

Now I'd better actually go and catch up with last last few month's worth of fics. ^^

Oh! *claps hands* Now I remember what I was going to mention last night. I picked up the first volumes of the American release of CLAMP School Detectives and 20 Masks recently--and they have honorifics! And little cultural notes on things like zaibatsu! *hearts*

In other news, I continue to yearn periodically to play D&D (tabletop, not email). Straight-up 3e D&D. Anyone in north/central New Jersey got a game looking for a new player? Or, failing that, one running on IRC?

Semi-productive weekend. Actually got a reasonable chunk done on Sakura (wonder of wonders!), plus finished a scene in the current Weiss thing and almost finished one in the Sword Dance sequel. Booyah. Am now attempting to stay awake long enough to converse on IRC. I seem to have sleepy-PMS.

Trin, the series is rather awful, but the fandom, when it's good, is very good. (And when it's not...well, let's not go there.) There's such great potential in the characters, potential that's never fully realized in canon. So of course there's lots for fans to do. ^_^

There was something else I wanted to say, but I can't remember it right now, so I think I'll head off.

The characters have been looking at each other. And smiling. And looking. And smiling. And looking and smiling and looking and smiling and looking and smiling. THEY'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR THE LAST TEN PAGES. I'm about to beat something with a stick. At least Youji's finally turned up, though. Maybe he'll save me from driving myself to distraction with this frickin' scene.

Just wanted to say that I read the chapter, it completely rocks, and I'm looking forward to giving comments on it. Maybe this weekend? Depends on how badly my own brain has expired by then. I'll be seeing X-Men 2 on Saturday, so I'll finally be able to read all the spoiler posts that I've been storing up. As well as clear some other email before I'm crushed under it like a bug. Yay me. ^_^

...Somewhere in the back of my head, Youji is sparkling. I'm going to go and be afraid now.

(edited to reflect the fact that I did end up seeing K-chan on IRC that night)

So I spent most of this week researching motor boats and Japanese shrubbery for the current Weiss Thing. Mainly motor boats, since I'd written a bit with Weiss and Schwarz on a boat and then needed to figure out if there *was* a sort of boat with the layout I'd used and if Crawford could indeed pilot it from the uppermost part, which he can and which I have now learned is called a flybridge. Shanti says I might be putting in too much effort for a series that features an empty jumbo charter jet basically flying itself, various kinds of bad evil science, and Ken changing from mini-skirt to his working clothes in basically the time it takes to pull off a wig, but hey. It's fun. ^^ I also finished rewatching the last couple of episodes of WK season one, and had the most delightful time alternately loving and heckling it. (Schuldig: "What are you so worried about? We don't even have any weapons." N-chan: "Who needs weapons when we've got Farfarello's tongue?" Tongue: "Blaaaaaargh!!") I hadn't remembered that Youji actually refers to Omi "Omi-chan" at one point. And dear god, the OmiKen. *hearts-n-sparklies* I really will finish and release one of these OmiKen fics one of these days. But not this weekend, since tonight I'm going over to Shanti and Loop's to watch anime and be happily unproductive. I want to slore Loop on Wolf's Rain, which he'll probably either love or scorn, and also see if he'll continue to sit through Fruits Basket. And Shanti wants to see the Worst Death Ever in WK1 again, so I have to show her that and also the outtakes.

See, it all comes back to Weiss.... Sei-chan's going to take out a contract on them, if I'm not careful.
