Priestly hiatus

Posted in Administrivia at 6:44 pm by

And just two days after the last post, I have run into the wall again. The last year or so my health has really taken a beating, and in the past few days I’ve had a flare-up of issues. It seems to me now that something is just not in balance, so I’m taking a step back from my commitments in order to concentrate on reducing stress, reorienting my life, and trying to recover. As part of that, I’ve stepped back from the Kemetic Orthodox priesthood again.

It sucks, because I love the work. I love the act of service, the magic of opening the shrine, of offering to my Mother. And there’s pride involved too, as I hate the feeling of failure, especially after all the struggling I’ve done recently (and the posts I’ve made about it). But I think this is the best solution for the present. And if I do return to the priesthood someday, I’ll be a better priest for having taken the time to take care of myself.

I’ll still be worshipping and working with Bast and the Netjeru and continuing to practice my religion and to explore spirituality in general, so I may still post here from time to time. I hope I do! For the moment, though, good night, and senebty (be well).

A brief update

Posted in Administrivia, Festivals at 10:12 am by

Aiyah…so for the last month or so an unfortunate conjunction of events has kept me out of shrine and off this blog: a (minor but annoying) health issue, impurity, travel, an accident that led me into the thrilling nerve-wracking world of car buying, impurity. I’m starting to get back into gear, but the wheels are still turning very slowly.

In the meantime, the House of Netjer celebrated Wingfest, a week of special online chats and in-person get-togethers in honor of the many winged Names of Netjer. You can read Heruakhetymose’s account of the Northeast gathering here and here. I was still feeling run-down and nearly backed out of attending any of the events, but I’m glad I didn’t — I always forget this between times, but being with my fellow Kemetics is one of the best parts of this religion.

Hopefully more to come soon-ish. I’m still debating whether to try catching up on the Pagan Blog Project….

Admin: Various site updates

Posted in Administrivia at 9:18 am by

Since I’m being fairly active here (nekhtet!), I figured I’d post an update on some of my activity elsewhere:

I hadn’t gotten around to saying so here, but I did get reconfirmed as a W’ab priest, and I’ve been back in service since the beginning of this (secular) year. So my shrine log, The Book of Nekhen Saut-sen Iryt Ra, is back in operation. Since it basically consists of what I offer each day and random (or not so random) impressions, it’s likely not of much interest to anyone else. But you never know.

I’ve posted a bunch of new songs to Songs for the Netjeru — well, some of them are actually new, and some are older songs where I’m finally relatively satisfied with the recordings. I’ve also added an updates page, so now it’s actually possible to tell what’s been added recently.

I’ve created a Tumblr, KemeticFindings, which is going to be taking over from my old Friday Findings posts on this blog. At the moment it’s pretty much all Bast; that will probably stay the main focus, but I expect to be including other things of interest as well.

admin: two ancillary sites

Posted in Administrivia at 7:36 pm by

I just wanted to make a quick post to announce the launch of two ancillary sites:

Songs for the Netjeru – a collection of songs that I’ve written for the Gods over the last several years. About thirty songs are up on the site now, with more to follow at some point once I get better recordings.

The Book of Nekhen Saut-sen Iryt Ra – a log book for my state shrine, keeping a record of offerings made, as well as any thoughts, prayers, or messages from Bast that might arise. (This is possibly not really of interest to anyone else, being frequently either repetitive or cryptic, but I like doing it — besides being a good way to track my service and remind myself of inspirations, keeping a record like this feels rather traditional.)

Links to both sites have been added to the main page sidebar. Enjoy!

Admin: reviews

Posted in Administrivia, Books at 12:34 pm by

One of the things I’ve been meaning to do with this weblog is periodically post reviews, primarily of Kemetic-interest books and articles, although other things may also creep in occasionally. I’ve just posted my first review as a test run. FYI, these won’t all be current books — I thought it would be helpful for people to know about older, more obscure resources as well. Plus it’ll help me to keep track of what I’ve read.
