Falling from the Moon

FAQ

Okay, I'm not really sure how much call there is for a FAQ for this story, but there were a couple of comments that I originally had in the author's note, and I thought they really belonged here instead, since they're things that not everybody would wonder about. If you have any questions of your own about this story--if you're bewildered by anything or just want to know why I did something or where I got certain information--just ask, and maybe I'll add it to this list.

May I archive "Falling from the Moon"?

In a word, no, but please feel free to link to the story. (Although the story is technically finished, the possibility for revision still exists, so I'd really rather not have old versions floating about the Net.)

Why is there a Chapter 10.5?

I originally wrote straight from Chapter 10 to Chapter 11, skipping the summer months during which Issei and Jinpachi further developed their relationship. But then I began to wonder whether I'd skimped too much. So I went back and wrote 10.5 after writing Chapter 12, and simply didn't want to redo my numbering system. In addition, 10.5 is a hair more explicit than any of the other chapters and I'm not sure it quite fits the feel and intent of "Please Save My Earth." So I wanted to keep it slightly separated from all the rest. You can consider 10.5 an optional chapter, almost a side story; I don't think you'll miss anything vital to the plot if you skip it.

Why does Jinpachi keep saying "Oh my God"? That's not very Japanese!

I know,"Oh my God" isn't a typically Japanese expression, but it just seemed to fit Jinpachi's occasionally spastic personality so well. If it makes you feel any better, I justify it in my own head by considering him at least nominally Christian, though I couldn't say why. Maybe because I thought he'd be more likely to freak at the shounen ai stuff if he was; or maybe it was because of that picture of him on the cover of one of the video boxes, where he's wearing a small cross around his neck--purely trendy decoration, I'm now aware, but at the time I sort of latched onto it as Significant. Of such tiny details is fanon made. If the phrase bothers you, just translate it in your head into some suitable Japanese expression of shock.
