12/11/2002 Entry: "O fickle brain cell...."
Two minutes! I let the WK boys back into my brain for two minutes (well, okay, maybe more like fifteen or twenty minutes, the amount of time it takes to read a fanfic), and suddenly we're back with the brain-cell-stealing catboy story and the aching and the panting and the writhing and the reading WK smut fics all day at work.* Argh. (At least it was good smut--Koumori's Pat Benatar series at Boys Next Door, in case you're wondering. Mmm.) (And yes, this *was* all your fault. Evil.) Fortunately the daydream story went decadent very quickly, right about the time of the brainwashing of Schuldig and Weiss going up against Kritiker, so I think I've more or less escaped it. K-chan, I get what you mean now about the catboy story really making Omi become not-Omi; that was where the storyline started to die for me, when Omi changed far enough to be nearly unrecognizable and frankly a little bit scary. Luckily I've never meant to write the catboy story up until that point anyway. I plan to stop with the happy, cuddly, genki Ken/Omikitten scene and leave it at that. Assuming that I ever do write the rest of it, of course. So with luck the deck is now clear to get back to the person who's *supposed* to be scary: darling Sei-chan. I've been wearing my sparkly Sakurazukamori Christmas bracelet for inspiration. Speaking of which: my cat has an amusing if somewhat disturbing fondness for putting my Subaru and Seishirou UFO catcher dolls into compromising positions. Here's the latest one, along with the culprit. (Of course, I'm assuming that she's the one doing it, and that they aren't getting into these positions by themselves. After all, since I moved the remote control from the couch to the table, they don't really have any other form of entertainment.) I appreciate Maiko's efforts, but if she thinks Subaru and Seishirou look that hot together she should stop sitting on me every night and let me write! The laptop and the cat both fit in my lap--just barely--but it makes it very hard to type. Still, despite the best efforts of the cat--I've finished S&S 16! Yay!--Wait, get back here, it hasn't been posted yet. ^_^;;;; It needs to sit for a bit, then have at least one other editing pass before it goes out to prereading. I'm still relatively on-track for a Christmas-ish release, though. Now, on to work on the Drift.
Quick Quiz You can reply here or in your own livejournal. This is for writers OR readers! Come one, come all! 1. The first story I EVER posted/read was: (if you don't remember, describe story) The first fanfic I ever posted was...hrmm. I think it was the early chapters of "Sakura and Snow." ("Falling was the first thing I started writing, but I think I didn't start posting fic anywhere until I was on the CML, and obviously "Falling" would have been off-topic there.) It was also my first yaoi fic. ^^ The first fanfic I ever read...oh, gosh. Not counting brief glances at friends' Star Trek and Blake 7 fanzines, I think it must have been some Ranma thing, because I "discovered" fanfiction by visiting rec.arts.anime.creative, and Ranma was and still is the major part of the content there. The first thing I read there that I think was memorable (mainly because I still recall the title of it) was Richard Lawson's Nuku-Nuku story "Like Fish to a Cat." The first fanfics that I read that made me go "Omigod, other people are doing this, I must become one with them now!" were Monica Shin's TB fics "Time-Immaterial" and "A Dream" (I think it was those two; it might have been "Fate-Tragedy?" instead of "A Dream"), which were also posted to r.a.a.c. First yaoi fic that rocked my world was K-chan's "X-otica." 2. The fandom for that was... (if you're too ashamed to admit it, lie!) Oops. Guess I answered this already. ^_^ 3. And this was actually back in... *counts on fingers* 1996, I think. Possibly 1997. 4. My favorite genre to write is: Probably ambivalent romance. I like to work through the knots in tangled relationships. ^^ Closely followed by introspective monologues. I'll pretty much do anything, though--drama, dark, PWP, rarely humor, either one-shots or multi-parters. I'm not much for slice-of-life stories about the little mundane moments. (I love to read them, but I don't seem to write them.) 5. My favorite genre to read is: I like relationship stories that go beyond the stock formula of "I love him! But how can I ever tell him? My feelings will never be accepted!" "I love him! But how can I ever tell him? My feelings will never be accepted!" "Oh, wait, I guess we both love each other after all." "Cool! Let's go to bed! Or at least smooch!" As I mentioned above, I enjoy fics about everyday moments, tiny little events and understated realizations, probably because it's not something I really excel at myself. I'm more likely to read short fics rather than multi-parters, simply due to lack of time and energy. 6. My TOP FIVE or VERY favorite fan-author(s) is/are: Only five? *sweatdrop* Okay, these are the ones that are more or less guaranteed to blow my mind, no matter what fandom they write in:
Sabina Tang 7. My favorite published-author(s) is/are: C.J. Cherryh, Tanith Lee (mostly older stuff, haven't read the newer), Ursula K. Le Guin 8. I can often be found haunting... My couch, where I write. Oh, you mean online. ^_^ I've put most of my few mailing lists on web-read, but I recently rejoined the CFFML. There are also a couple of private lists where I'm semi-active. I do a circuit of certain weblogs periodically, too. 9. My current passion is: Back to TB/X again, tra la, mainly because I'm starting back up with "Sakura." 10. A fandom I kind of miss, and still have a few unexorcised ghosts for is: I'm not done in PSME yet; I may go back to it some day. Weiss is on temporary hiatus but may also return. 11. My strangest, most unexpected fandom turn was: I don't think I've really had any particularly strange turns. Most of my obsessions seem pretty understandable. I suppose the most "Where the hell did *that* come from?" moment was getting ambushed by "Youji's Omelette." I'm still vaguely bemused that I wrote that one. 12. Something I wish I could write for, but never did/never will was: It's hard to say, because I still entertain hopes of writing for some things. Shamanic Princess, for instance. Oh, wait, I know--Arislan. I love it to death, I enjoy reading in it, I'd love to write something for it, but I have absolutely no fire in the head where it's concerned. *shrugs* 13. I'm happily (or unhappily) anticipating being ambushed at some point by: Potential ambushees include Fruits Basket, Hikaru no Go, Chobits, Yami no Matsui, and Gravitation, most of which I've seen at least bits of, but none of which I've written for yet. 14. A secret fandom urge I've never confessed is: The desire to rip a new one for a particular Big Name Fan in some spectacularly public fashion. (You and me! Mano a mano! C'mon!) I never did, though, for the Good of the Fandom. By now I've pretty much outgrown the impulse, and she's moved on anyhow. A secondary urge was to post something on ff.net solely to show up the vole-spawn. I resisted this one, too. A third one was to create a secret online alias and become Editorial Bitch Queen of the fanfic universe, smiting down people who post "C&C pleeeeeez!!!!" Really, though, I've got better things to do with my time. Wow, that's a lot of secret urges. I'm so repressed. ^^;;; 15. I am most proud of (reading/writing/being involved with) this particular fandom aspect:
*the friends I've made all around the world

| Quite proud that it's all my fault. More things like this need to be my fault. S&S 16 done is also good--waiting eagerly until it's ready for public consumption. --Nataku Posted by Nataku @ 12/12/2002 03:32 PM EST |
| 1) It's good to hear you survived the WK smut bug; that thing has been known to be deadly to some writers. ::throws a victory sign:: 2) Your cat is COOL. ::chuckles:: That's even cooler than the shota-aged boys that follow me around talking about shounen ai. 3) S&S 16. Wau. After such a long break, you're going to get quite a wave of feedback one way or another. Brace for impact! ^^ (Ganbare onegaishimasu! ::shakes her Sumomo pompoms::) Well then... going to go be sparkly to myself for a while... ^^ Posted by MD @ 12/13/2002 10:29 AM EST |

Natalie Baan! It's nice to see that Sakura and Snow is finally back on track...I've been waiting so long for more of your beautiful writing. And yes, those UFO dolls do look quite suspicious. I'm sure they entertain themselves quite nicely. ^_^ *grins* At any rate, good luck with more S&S! ^_^ All you fans are waiting anxiously! Posted by Skuld-chan @ 12/14/2002 05:40 PM EST |

First of all, wow O.O More Sakura & Snow!! Yaaaay!! ^^ I actually asked a friend to print all 150 pages so I can read it in bed... Very cute dolls ^^- I think your SxS obsession may have infected your cat too... You said you liked fanfics about mundane relationship moments, I really recommend D.C Logan (archived on GW Addiction). She writes the most touching 1x2 shounen ai ^^.
