Holy Mother….
Holy Mother
Holy Mother
You burn like the river at dawn
You burn like the river at dawn
Holy Mother
Holy Mother
As gold as the sun when You rise
As gold as the sun when You rise
Holy Mother
Holy Mother
Your perfume brings joy to my heart
Your perfume brings joy to my heart
Holy Mother
Holy Mother
Your love brings peace to my soul
Your love brings peace to my soul
Bring me life
Bring me life
Bring me life
Holy Mother….
Notes: Written in May 2009. It was literally twenty minutes from the first notes hitting me in the shower to my getting this recording down, so it may be a little rough. I’d like to think that it captures the spontaneity of the moment. (Though I still might make a better recording someday.)
Rise up, starry Cow!
Come down, shining Dove!
The year turns, and the Decans change.
O Netjer, bless us on these holy days.
Rise up, divine Cow!
Come down, sacred Dove!
As Ra sails in His barque of years,
His Eye protects us, children of His tears.
Rise up, sun-crowned Cow!
Come down, silvery Dove!
O Holy Ladies, veiled in light,
in beauty You appear upon this night.
Rise up, Mother Nut!
Come down, Aset!
As You stride between sky and earth,
Your dance of love gives life to all the world, all the world!
As You fly between sky and earth,
Your dance of love gives life to all the world![repeat]
Notes: Written in December 2010 for two festivals: The Establishment of the Celestial Cow and the Descent of the Dove. Note that though Aset is named in the song, there’s some confusion as to whether she or Hethert is actually the dove. At least it’s easy to substitute in Hethert’s name, if you prefer it.
Make it clean, make it pure for [name of God]!
Make it whole, make it holy for [name of God]!
[repeat]
Notes: Written in January 2012 while cleaning the litter box, but effective for any kind of house or yard work. The recording names Ma’at and Bast, but you can substitute the God(s) of your choice.
O Bast the Great, You come to guard the Two Lands!
Sekhmet the Great, You come to guard the Two Lands!
Djehuty calls You when the sun is rising.
With claw and flame, go forth to guard the Two Lands
in splendor!
Notes: Written in December 2011 for the festival of Djehuty Calls Bast and Sekhmet to Guard the Two Lands.
