Wepwawet — striding from the mountain!
Wepwawet — guarding the horizon!
Wepwawet — lord of each beginning!
Wepwawet, come to us!

Open the way for every prayer!
Open the way to our desire!
Open the way to akh and Netjer!
Open the way for us!

Before You the Gods tremble,
Strong on Earth and in Heaven!
Mighty soldier at sunrise,
Gentle watcher in twilight,
Everywhere raise Your standard,
North and south in the Two Lands,
Running ever before us —

Jackal of the West,
Hear our call, Wepwawet!

Open the way for us!

Notes: Written in the spring of 2008, because I’d promised Him a song the year before. Inspiration for the lyrics came in part from “Hymn to Wepwawet III” in Egypt: Temple of the Whole World: Studies in Honor of Jan Assman, S. Meyer, ed., 105-6 (although in that hymn “Wepwawet” may actually be an epithet of Wesir).
